In 1751 Sesshōsai authored a woodblock-printed picture book entitled Ehon Shūyō (i.e., Gathering of Leaves Picture Book). It contained pictures of a wide range of objects, including flowers and birds. Thirty-two of the latter are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Flowers and birds were drawn only semi-accurately, which was the norm for Japanese flower-bird art in the 18th century.
